Lakhbir Singh's father's name is Darshan Singh. At the age of 6 months, Fufa Harnam Singh adopted Lakhbir Singh. Lakhbir Singh was a laborer by profession and his age was 35-36 years. Lakhbir Singh of SC caste was a resident of Cheema Khurd village in Tarn-Taran district. His parents have died. There is now only one widowed sister (Raj Kaur) in the family. His wife Jaspreet Kaur did not live together. She lives separately with their three children. This includes three daughters. Whose age is between 8 to 12 years.

Singh had come to the border three days before Lakhbir's murder. Nihang was living here in the camp. It is being told that on the day of the incident Lakhbir Singh was found along with Sarbaloh Granth. A Nihang objected to this and asked him some questions. It was only after that that the controversy started. It is alleged that after this the Nihangs together caught Lakhbir Singh, beat him, cut off a wrist. After several blows, when Lakhbir came in a dying condition, he was left to die and the body was hung from the barricade.

Lakhbir's brother-in-law Sukhbir said – “Lakhbir could never desecrate the holy book. Somebody must have instigated them, must have provoked them. He had left the house last week with Rs 50. We had no idea that they could be on the Singhu border. We want justice. Whoever instigated them should be found."

Sukhbir said that even if Lakhbir had committed sacrilege of the holy book, then Nihangs should not have killed him. They say that the Nihangs should have captured them, tied them up and waited for them to come to their senses so that they could be interrogated, but they should not have been murdered.

At the same time, a huge crowd has gathered in the house of the deceased Lakhbir Singh in Tarn Taran, Punjab since October 15. Local people say that even though Lakhbir Singh was a drug addict, he was not a bad person. People wonder how he was murdered so mercilessly.
